Prompt:
"Create a switch that encourages users to turn it off."
Research
After coming up with research supporting why everyone should turn off their lights, I then decided to create a user profile to target a specific user type.
User group and market research
I decided to focus on those with ADHD. I looked at the fidget toy market to determine the similarities between the most popular, and use that information as inspiration to design a fidget-toy like light switch.
Round one
I iterated forms and came to a rectangular button. I made cardboard prototypes and a 3D printed prototype. I then went back to ideation to try other forms. I decided on an oval.
Oval Iteration
During the mid-project review, I received feedback on both forms. Everyone agreed that they liked the oval shape best.
The final
I 3D printed a black and a white option as the final. I also filleted the edges. The button is an easy click, you can press it, bump it with your elbow, throw a ball at it, and it'll turn on/off.
I added several color options because the current light switch blends into the wall. With colors, the switch will contrast the wall and help catch your eye on your way out, reminding you to turn off the light.
